Gratitude from Alabama
Friday, July 22, 2011
My name is Peggy Smith and I am from Tuscaloosa, Ala. I would like to extend our family’s sincerest thanks along with no doubt the people of Tuscaloosa County for the generous donations during the April 27 tornado outbreak.
We are especially appreciative to Winter Storage (Atlas Van Lines), which donated its trucks and drivers to bring critical supplies when we had none.
Our emergency management headquarters was destroyed along with other police and fire stations.
Kim Porter, the staff and volunteers with Community Services of Arkansas(Office of Human Concern) worked tirelessly to collect and deliver donations with hugs and smiles and prayers for all and did it all again for the people in Joplin, Mo., on May 22.
I’m sure the people of Joplin, who also received generous help from your community, would agree: FEMA is useful, but FEMA is not who enabled our community to survive and begin the road to recovery.
We were able to persevere and prevail with the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and communities such as yours, who selflessly donated their personal assets, money, time and prayers.
The outpouring of love, support, grief and help was simply astounding: even emergency service workers who came from other states said they had never seen anything quite like it and the majority of those individuals had been in storms such as Hugo, Andrew, Camille, Ivan and Katrina.
Some believe it is because of the University of Alabama, others believe it is just the manners and good-nature of southerners.
I believe that the love and care you showed us is because we all proudly live in the Bible Belt and we share our belief in the Lord, our Lord God and the family of Christ takes care of one another.
God bless you and thank you again.
PEGGY SMITH
