Teen Volunteers

(How we get things done—sometimes!)

The Office of Human Concern is grateful when we receive any volunteer assistance. It is particularly gratifying when we are blessed with the energy, ingenuity and enthusiasm of teens! Teens and young adults bring a fresh perspective and spirit to sometimes mundane tasks at the OHC Central Office.

We are fortunate to have four youth volunteers helping us:
Michael Dutton, 15, grandson of Housing / Energy Manager Jerrie Dutton; Brittany Eggebrecht, Zach and Mikayla Porter, children of Asset development Coordinator Kimberly Porter.

These youngsters fill a variety of needs for us, from unloading trucks, to representing our agency at special events.

Mr. Dutton begged to be included in representing OHC at the recent Business Showcase at Hammons Center. Were we glad we said yes! Michael was the hit of the showcase, as he visited each booth, distributed business cards for OHC, and answered questions about who we are and what we do. (Oh, yes, the suit was Michael’s idea! And, yes, he knew the answers to the questions
people asked.)

The Porter trio are often at the office, and have assisted with folding newsletters and other mailings, stamping envelopes, cooking and serving dinner to our Board of Directors, and a variety of other tasks. Mom Kim Porter says, “I’m instilling in them early, the value of volunteering and community service.”

We appreciate our young volunteers and hope this willingness to volunteer stays with them forever!
